The City East Cable Tunnel (CECT) Development project comprised of the construction of a 3.2 kilometer long and 3.5 meter wide, 132KV cable tunnel that is segmentally lined. The tunnel connects the City North substation in Sussex Street to the new substation in Rile Street, Surry Hills. The CECT project also involved an extension to the existing City South Cable Tunnel (CSCT) from the existing Surry Hills shaft to the proposed site of the Riley Street STSS.

Star Group provided the electrical and communications services of the project, which includes services for the completion of three cable ladders that run the full length of the City East Cable Tunnel and the CSCT Extension. These will be used for the reticulation of power, lighting circuits and communications fibres which complete the full ring of the tunnel network.
