Engineering and Infrastructure

Introduction
Infrastructure and Engineering provides solutions to non-Commercial projects such as Railways, Highways, Tunnels and the Resources Sector. Star Group has been involved in this sector since the 1960s, As of 2007, this division was created to focus this sector of the market. This division will utilise each division’s expertise as well as managing other sub-contractors in order to provide a total solution to its customers.

Star Engineering and Infrastructure's Projects and Skill-sets include;

• Signalling Minibah Bank (Small Projects >100k)
• Electrical Low Voltage- K2RQ (Small Projects >100k),  Cable Tunnel - 4 M
• Security - Railcorp's Security Installer ADT (Small projects >500k)
• Communications (Installation of Fibre and Copper) Cable Tunnel- 4 M
• Management of Sub-contractors- Star E&I uses non-electrical sub-contractors such as trenching and fabrication to complement its signalling electrical and communications installations. For example; trenching contractors so that the conduit with the cable can be laid in the trench.

Safety

The Star Group has amended its safety management plan to meet Railcorp's standards and the requirements of the NSW Rail Safety Act. The company will continue to amend the safety plan to meet the changing requirements of the Railway and other industries.

Case study: Homebush and Lidcombe Turnback
This project commenced with minor works for Leighton’s Project at Homebush and Lidcombe Stations. This project involved the construction of a new turnback and associated side platform at the two stations
On each minor contract, Star Group’s Engineering and Industrial division exceeded Leighton’s expectations and was rewarded with additional contracts. The initial contract value was less $30,000 and this grew to over $1,000,000 as additional works were awarded due to its demonstrated efficiencies and performance on-site.
The works included Low Voltage, High Voltage, Data Cabling for Security and IT.
